Input form control

Signature

<ut-signature>

Sign with a finger, pen or mouse, or type a name. The signature is saved as a trimmed PNG with the task's attachments.

Officialv1.0.0

Try it

Live preview

The real control in the same sandboxed frame the app uses. Switch to dark mode or read-only to see how it adapts.

Customer signature

In the preview the signature is not stored; on a form it is saved with the task's attachments.

Value the form receives

null

Sandboxed frame (opaque origin, its own CSP), talking to this page only through the typed postMessage bridge — exactly as on a form.

About

What it does

A signature pad for approvals, deliveries, inspections and consent forms. People sign with a finger on a phone, a pen on a tablet or a mouse on a desktop, undo a stroke or clear the pad, then press "Use this signature". The signature is trimmed to its ink, saved as a PNG through the same storage as the Attachments field, and the field keeps a reference to that file.

Keyboard and screen reader users can choose "Type your name instead": the name is drawn in a handwriting font and saved the same way. Completed tasks, emails and the mobile app show the signature file; the form shows the image with a "Signed" badge and, while the task is open, a "Sign again" button.

Choose the ink colour, a white or transparent background, the pad height and the prompt under the signing line.

Good for

  • Customer sign-off on a delivery or a completed job
  • Manager approval on an expense or purchase request
  • Consent and acknowledgement on onboarding or safety forms

After installing

  1. Install the package: the control appears in Extensibility → Form controls and in the form designer's palette under Custom.
  2. Drag Signature onto a form. It uses the form's file storage (the same limits as an Attachments field), so no other setup is needed.
  3. Optionally set the ink colour, background, pad height, prompt and whether a typed signature is allowed in the properties panel.

Reference

Value, properties and accessibility

Value

[{ id, name, size, type }] (Attachments)

Stored as the field's value (type files), validated by the server against the control's schema; the control also reports its own validity while people type.

Read-only views (completed tasks, mobile, emails) show the value as list.

Keyboard and screen readers

Role: group, named by the field label.

Tab to the drawing area and the buttons. Keyboard users choose "Type your name instead", type their name and press Enter (or "Use this signature"). Undo removes the last stroke, Clear empties the pad, "Sign again" replaces a saved signature.

Properties (set in the form designer)
PropertyTypeDefaultWhat it does
Ink colour pen_colorcolor—Defaults to dark ink on a white background, or the theme's text colour on a transparent one.

Allow a typed signature allow_typedbooleanyesShows "Type your name instead": the name is drawn in a handwriting font. This is the keyboard-accessible way to sign.
Prompt promptstringSign aboveText under the signing line.

Capabilities and security

Files
Uploads go through the Attachments pipeline (the same checks and storage). Reads are limited to files the form already gives the control: its own value, or an Attachments field the designer maps.

Install

Install it in your workspace

Works on UserTasks cloud and any self-hosted instance. The control lands in Extensibility → Form controls, enabled, and appears in the form designer's Custom palette.

In the app

  1. Open Extensibility → Form controls → Browse gallery (it opens Packages → Browse gallery on the Form controls tab) and choose Install on Signature. Or download form-control-signature-1.0.0.utpkg and drag it onto Automations → Packages.
  2. The wizard verifies the checksum, every file hash and the signature, and shows what it adds.
  3. Drag the control onto a form in the designer and set its properties.
